You can find out from your car dealer whether your vehicle is equipped with TPMS and whether you need sensors. You can also easily find out the information via serial number of your car. The TPMS is used to monitor the air pressure of your car tires while driving. Sensors take over the control of the air pressure and report incorrect pressure immediately to the driver. Since November 1, 2014, a TPMS has been mandatory for all newly registered vehicles in classes M1/M1G. This includes passenger cars, off-road vehicles and motor homes. Tire pressure monitoring systems are divided into two groups: active and passive systems. In the active system, the sensors are mounted directly on the tires and continuously measure pressure and temperature. This data is sent to the control unit by radio. If problems occur, the driver is informed by a warning light. The advantage of the active system is that it also works when the vehicle is stationary. The passive system uses the ABS sensors and traction control sensors already in the vehicle. These measure the speed of the wheels. If the tire pressure decreases, the wheel becomes smaller. This leads to an increased rotational speed compared to the other tires. Through this, the TPMS concludes that there is a loss of pressure in the wheel and reports this to the driver. The passive method therefore only works when the vehicle is rolling. Both systems are used in Germany and meet the standards required by EU directives. If your vehicle has TPMS sensors, you can order them in the shopping cart. You can find more information about the TPMS here.
